HEAT INSULATION OF FOUNDATIONS

Building begins with a foundation laying and the value of the foundation generally makes 15-20% of a general value of the house. At that, any construction cannot be deformed. Irregularity of the soil, season moisture coming, temperature fluctuations cause an irregular subsidence of the soil and as a result inner stresses in the material of foundation. Thus microcracks appear opening the way to an active movement of water. As a result, untrue doors and windows, moisture, mold. In spring when the thaw begins the soil gets sluggish, the foundation settles. All that creates an additional threat of the house drowning and the structure gets dangerous.

In the other equal conditions the most advantageous is an absolute external heat insulation of (the perimeter of) the building. If heat insulation is fully placed outside water isolation, then water isolation itself and the elements of the structure get an additional, long-lasting protection from mechanical and thermal influences.

If together with heat insulation the soil drain around the building is needed, then one of possible solutions can be application of non-woven geotextile – see the picture.

Application of heat insulation with heated underground is needed even if the share of heat losses through underground in a general balance is relatively small. An external heat insulation of underground walls is economically reasonable and if exploitation of the building is planned directly after building works are finished.

The materials from extruded polystyrene have been used for the perimeter heat insulation for more than 20 years. (The perimeter of the building implies the elements touching the ground). Extruded polystyrene TEPLOMA is particularly advantageous to apply for the area of the perimeter where the elements of the building contacting to the ground should meet particularly severe requirements to water-resistance, heat insulation, ageing resistance, solidity, resistance to freezing-melting cycles.

If external underground walls need only heat insulation and no drain is needed or it is done by a general method (for instance, through filter layer of gravel), in this case it is efficient to use the boards TEPLOMA over water isolation that assures an additional mechanical protection.

A basic part of the building shall be insulated with extruded polystyrene TEPLOMA with further plastering on a fabric. On making heat insulation of a foundation board TEPLOMA it is laid directly on a clean adjusting layer and covered with a polyethylene film overlapped at the edges and then built in. Using hydraulic concrete the boards of insulant can be placed directly in siding.

The advantages of the system of heat insulation of the perimeter with utilization of the boards from extruded polystyrene TEPLOMA are:

  • Improvement of temperature and humidity mode of the ground as a result of which the volume of ground works decreases;
  • Reduction of heat losses of the building and as a result decrease of the costs for heating (15-20% of heat comes out of the house through the floors and foundations);
  • Protection of water isolation from mechanical damages at the stage of building;
  • Protection of the elements of the building in the period of exploitation thereof and guarantee of a long-term integrity;
  • Prevention of water entry onto external walls;
  • Simplicity of assembling, it can be accomplished in any weather conditions;
  • Little water absorption and high heatproof properties;
  • Resistance to acidic compounds in the ground;
  • High compressive resistance on long-lasting loading;
  • Ageing resistance.
